Introduction
I love art. I love consuming it, I love making it. I love all mediums of art, and I love their genres. In film, in music, whatever. From the most trashy, to the most sophisticated. Art has been such a fundamental and large force in my life I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.
I’m not unique. My generation now (Z) is inundated with art. Many young adults today practice a form of generality in our consumption of art, thanks to the nature of reccomendation systems in apps like spotify and youtube, which would naturally expand our bounds.
But it was because I was so largely determined by art that I came to realize the depths of its perversion.
Why is art a perversion? Specifically, it’s a perversion of reality, with what little of it there communicated in such a way that is muddled and obtuse. What is said by the piece, can be said in a sentence, and of what is often said has already been discussed to greater depths in works of philosophy.
Due to its perversion of reality, its consumers will by its force, mistake entertainment for reality. We may believe it doesn’t, but where do you imagine our cultural misconceptions are enforced?
